Local Benchmark
How to use Local Benchmark to understand how your business compares to similar ones nearby.
Local Benchmark helps you understand your position in the local market by comparing your customer feedback to similar businesses nearby.
Why Market Context Matters
Understanding your own reviews is valuable. But knowing how your feedback compares to similar businesses nearby gives you something most operators don't have: context.
This isn't about ranking or competing. It's about understanding what customers in your area tend to value—so you can make informed decisions about where to focus.
What Local Benchmark Shows
When you add similar businesses, you'll see:
Your Strengths
Aspects of your business that customers mention more positively than they do for similar places. These are your local differentiators—worth protecting and building on.
Shared Expectations
Things that customers expect from any business like yours. Meeting these expectations is baseline; they're not necessarily areas to focus extra effort.
Opportunities
Areas where similar businesses get stronger feedback. This isn't a criticism—it's context that helps you understand what customers in your area value. You can decide whether these matter for your business.
Adding Similar Businesses
To use Local Benchmark:
- Navigate to Local Benchmark in your dashboard
- Click Add Business
- Search for businesses similar to yours (same category, nearby location)
- Select businesses to add to your comparison set
We recommend adding 3-5 businesses that are genuinely similar to yours—same type of business, similar customer base, and in your local area.
How Comparison Works
We analyze the reviews of businesses you add using the same AI that analyzes your own reviews. Then we compare the patterns to show you where perceptions differ.
This analysis updates regularly as new reviews come in for both your business and the comparison businesses.
What This Is Not
Local Benchmark is not a competitive ranking tool. We're not trying to help you "beat" other businesses—we're helping you understand your context.
Similar businesses are reference points for understanding customer expectations in your market. Knowing that customers in your area value quick service helps you decide whether to focus there, not whether you're "winning" at it.
Privacy Note
We only analyze publicly available review data. We don't access any private business information, and the businesses you add aren't notified that you've added them.
